The Summer Reading Challenge blasted off on Saturday at the newly opened Compton Road Library, over 50 children created their own rockets and launched them in to the sky at Compton. Parents watched as a competition was held to discover which rocket would travel the furthest!
After the rocket making Space Connections held space food experiments, children tasted real food an astronaut would eat in space and took part in experiments.
On this day in 1969 Neil Armstrong and "Buzz" Aldrin become the first men to walk on the Moon during the Apollo 11 mission. An Astronaut, Michael Collins, also took part in the mission, but his job was to stay with the Lunar Orbiter so the Neil and Buzz could get home safely.
The astronauts left the capsule in trhe early hours of Sunday morning and Neil Armstrong became the first man to set foor on the moon at 2:56am GMT (thats the time here in the UK, Americans say they set foor on the moon at 10:56pm on 20th July, to find out more about these odd time differences look here)
